Outlander also offers a variety of warranty options to suit your needs. Including a basic warranty of five-years/60,000-miles, a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, seven-year/100,000-mile anti-corrosion warranty and roadside assistance for five years with unlimited miles. 

Kia matches the basic warranty and powertrain coverages but offers only five years/100,000-miles on their anti-corrosion (anti-perforation) warranty as well as a five-year/60,000-mile cap on their roadside assistance warranty.  

Looking at value alone, the Mitsubishi Outlander has the edge.

Available features for the Mitsubishi Outlander include leather upholstery, eight-way power driver’s seat with memory built in, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, 10.8-inch heads-up display, three-zone auto climate control, 10-speaker Bose sound system, power panoramic sunroof and wireless phone charging. While the Sorento offers similar features, they lack the heads-up display and three-zone auto climate control.

Technology

Inside the Mitsubishi Outlander you’ll find standard tech features like dual-zone auto climate control, a 7-inch digital multi-info display, an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility paired with a 6-speaker sound system and voice control. For comfortability you can enjoy a 6-way manual driver’s seat with power lumbar support, fabric seat upholstery and 40/20/40 split-folding second-row seating. 

Inside the Kia Sorento you’ll find very similar standard features like the 6-speaker audio system, 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 6-way manual driver’s seat with fabric upholstery. However, it’s only equipped with standard manual climate control, 4.2-inch info display and 60/40 split-folding second-row seats. They also kept the driver’s seat with power lumbar support and infotainment voice control completely out of the Sorento.

Safety

When it comes to safety – the Outlander is a tough one to beat. Advanced safety features come standard on the Outlander like blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking and lane change assist it’s plain to see where Mitsubishi’s priorities are, because the Sorento charges extra for these benefits.

Both models, however, have standard forward collision mitigation assist with pedestrian detection, driver attention alert, lane-departure warning, rear-seat occupant alert and a rearview camera. Although only the Outlander offers the advanced MI-PILOT Assist with semi-autonomous driving capabilities.

On top of its wide array of standard safety features, the 2022 Outlander was ranked as an IIHS Top Safety Pick+, while the 2022 Sorento was first runner-up as an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

Specs and Performance

Both the Sorento and Outlander come out strong with a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Sorento’s torque and horsepower is slightly stronger, boasting 191 horsepower and 182 pounds-feet of torque. While the Outlander has 181 horsepower and 181 pounds-feet of torque.

What Outlander makes up for with its lack of horsepower is its efficiency on the road and highways. The Mitsubishi Outlander delivers up to an EPA estimated 24/31 MPG (City/Highway). While the Sorento clocks in at an EPA estimated 24/29 MPG (City/Highway).

With the standard 2.5-liter engines, both the Outlander and Sorento can tow an upwards of 2,000 pounds when equipped properly.

The Mitsubishi Outlander, however, compliments its towing capacity with a standard safety feature in Trailer Stability Assist. Which the Kia Sorento does not offer as a standard feature.

Outlander also has an edge on cargo room behind the first row with a spacious 79.7 cubic feet of space in comparison to the Sorento’s 75.7 cubic feet.
