See how the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander stacks up against the 2023 Subaru Forester in this comparison of two popular compact SUVs. We’ll give you a hint – it’s a closer race than you might think. Discover more of the 2023 Outlander’s many advantages below and get a true comparison between the Outlander and Forester by scheduling an Outlander test drive with our staff at Vern Eide Mitsubishi.
From a starting MSRP standpoint the Forester takes a slight edge with its lowest valued trim coming in at $26,395 to the Outlander’s $27,595.That being said, the car gurus at Edmunds have the average price paid for both vehicles being within a few hundred dollars of one another.
Outlander’s value really shines through its variety of warranty options to suit drivers needs. Including their basic warranty of five-years/60,000-miles, a 10-year/100,000-mile drivetrain warranty, seven-years/100,000-mile anti-corrosion warranty and roadside assistance for five years with unlimited miles.
Forester, on the other hand, lacks coverage across the board with its basic warranty only being covered for three-years/36,000-miles, their drivetrain warranty lasts five years/6,000 miles and their roadside assistance only covers you for three-years/36,000 miles. Their anti-corrosion warranty is the only coverage offered with unlimited miles for five years.
Inside the Outlander, you’ll find a wealth of standard features like dual-zone auto climate control, a 7-inch digital multi-info display, an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility paired with a 6-speaker sound system and voice control. For comfortability you can enjoy a 6-way manual driver’s seat with power lumbar support, fabric seat upholstery and 40/20/40 split-folding second-row seats.
For the Forester, you’ll find a couple similar features like the 6-speaker audio system, 6-way manual driver’s seat and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Otherwise, its standard infotainment display clocks in at 6.5-inches and they’re equipped with a 60/40 folding split-bench rear seat. Each Subaru Forester does come with a four-month free trial of SiriusXM All Access radio, but you’ll need a subscription once that comes due.
As for interior passenger space, the Forester does take the edge with 134.5 cubic feet of passenger volume to the Outlander’s 125.5 cubic feet. The Mitsubishi Outlander spreads its legroom more evenly throughout the vehicle than the Subaru Forester – giving backseat passengers more room for comfortability.
With standard 2.5-liter engines, both the Outlander and Forester can tow an upwards of 2,000 pounds when properly equipped. Though the Forester does boast a 3,000-pound towing capacity with the Wilderness trim and an available accessory – but that’ll run your budget upwards of almost $10,000 more than the base trim. Both models also come standard quipped with Trailer Stability Assist, keeping this race neck and neck.
When it comes to standard safety features, the 2023 Forester and Outlander are very close in comparison. Mitsubishi Outlander’s MI-PILOT Assist features is paired with forward collision mitigation assist with pedestrian detection, driver attention alert, lane-departure warning, rear-seat occupant alert, blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking and lane change assist. While the Forester’s EyeSight suite of driver assist features offer very similar technology, with one of the lesser-known features being pre-collision throttle management.
With Subaru’s track record of safety features in the vehicle industry, it’s a good sign for the Mitsubishi Outlander to be neck and neck with similar technology.
